Mu’awiyah was a Nasibi, says Ibn Kathir!!!

Ibn Kathir wrote a poem in his book al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah. The poem is this:

وهكذا خلفاء بني أمية * عدتهم كعدة الرافضية

ولكن المدة كانت ناقصة * عن مائة من السنين خالصة
وكلهم قد كان ناصبياً * إلا الإمام عمر التقيا
معاوية ثم ابنه يزيد * وابن ابنه معاوية السديد
مروان ثم ابن له عبد الملك * منابذ لابن الزبير حتى هلك

Ibn Kathir alleges that ALL the Umayyad caliphs were nasibis with the only exception of ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-’Aziz. Then he starts mentioning the names of these   nasibi caliphs, and says:

Mu’awiyah, then his son Yazid …..

This must be a shocker to the world!

The next question is: did Ibn Kathir “abuse” the Sahabah by calling Mu’awiyah a ?

If he did, was he then a kafir?
